Top 3 Hit TV Shows Featuring Wine

1) "Game of Thrones": Wine in Abundance

If there’s one show that’s currently a hit, it’s Game of Thrones! Its success is undeniably due to its many scenes of nudity, murder, and the constantly evolving cast of characters (in fact, we dare you to name more than five!). But wine might play a role as well. If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that some characters (and a few more than others) have quite a drinking habit! The site Movie Maniacs even counted the number of glasses drunk by each character in the first 40 episodes of the series. Discover who came out on top…

2) "Homeland": Carrie Mathison and White Wine

The heroine of Homeland, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), is a bipolar CIA agent on the hunt for terrorists day in and day out. Under immense pressure and with internal struggles, she finds solace in her two passions: jazz and white wine. The choice of white wine reflects the character’s psychological fragility, in contrast to red wine, which symbolizes strength.

3) "Scandal": Olivia Pope and Red Wine

Here’s another TV heroine who places great importance on wine: Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), the renowned political PR expert from Scandal, created by Shonda Rhimes, the mind behind Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder. Olivia is powerful and cannot go without her glass of red wine after a hard day’s work (which is, in a way, the opposite of Carrie). However, her tasting techniques have been criticized. According to a New York Times journalist, Olivia Pope “treats the finest wines as if they were a can of beer. She grabs her glass with her whole hand, rather than holding it by the stem like any wine lover would.” If you want to learn more about the mistakes to avoid when tasting wine, we invite you to read this article.
