An exceptional terroir
The 100-hectare Domaine de la Ferrandière was acquired by Jean-Claude Mas in 2013 and is located on the former dry pond of Marseillette. Nestled between the Corbières and Minervois regions near Carcassonne, just 40 km from the Mediterranean, this estate offers a terroir of rare singularity. Its geological features favor the cultivation of free-standing vines, giving the grapes the minerality and acidity that are found in Jean-Claude Mas wines.
A wealth of grape varieties and growing methods
This privileged region allows us to cultivate a wide variety of 18 grape varieties, including Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Marselan, and several types of Pinot (black, grey, white). In addition to vines, we also grow “vignerons” apples. La Ferrandière stands out for its specific viticultural practices, such as winter flooding of the vines to regulate soil salinity. Thanks to an exceptional microclimate, marked by warm days and cool nights, the diversity of grape varieties grown is accentuated, enhancing the quality of the wines produced by this unique terroir.
