Today, Nicolas Bauget leads the Maison Bauget-Jouette from the iconic city of Épernay, where pressing, winemaking, and bottling take place.

The History of Maison Bauget-Jouette

The story of Maison Bauget-Jouette spans five generations. Nicolas Bauget now heads this Champagne house from Épernay, the heart of the Champagne region. While the cellar is located in this Champagne capital, the vineyards are spread across various terroirs in the Champagne region. These diverse locations enable the house to maximize the potential of the region's three main grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. As a result, Maison Bauget-Jouette produces well-balanced and aromatic champagnes.

A Vineyard Across Multiple Terroirs for Diverse Wines

The house manages nearly thirteen hectares of vineyards. The Chardonnays mainly come from the Côte des Blancs (Premier Cru) and the town of Mandy. The Pinots (Meunier and Noir) primarily originate from the Marne Valley (Damery and Hautvillers). Additionally, the house has vineyards in the Coteaux south of Épernay and in the Sézannais region. This diverse planting allows for iconic blends and the creation of signature cuvées. The house offers a classic Brut de Réserve and a gastronomic Extra Brut. The flagship of the house, often awarded stars in the Hachette guide, is the Blanc de Blancs (100% Chardonnay) with its floral aromatic profile.

The latest addition to their range is the Brut cuvée, now also available as a Champagne rosé, which recently received a 90/100 rating from "Wine Enthusiast." Definitely worth a try!

Nicolas Bauget: A Hands-On and Attentive Winemaker

Nicolas Bauget’s motto is: “It is at night that it is beautiful to believe in the light” (Edmond Rostand). His memories as a winemaker are shaped by the human experiences of his early harvests. When asked for the first image that comes to mind when he thinks of his estate, it is that of a dedicated team. A team that works daily and maintains a constant connection with the environment and the vines.

Connected to his vineyard and his team, Nicolas approaches the production of his sparkling wines with sensitivity. Passionate about balanced, fine, elegant, honest, and straightforward wines, he seeks complexity within simplicity. Each day, he aims to build his new vintage, focusing on its substance, bouquet, flavors, and the complete pleasure it should provide.
