DOMAINE DE MOULINES: A UNIQUE TERROIR AND FAMILY HERITAGE
Domaine de Moulines: A Unique Terroir and Rich Family Heritage
Nestled in a landscape where the sea breeze mingles with the Mediterranean soil’s richness, Domaine de Moulines stands out for its deep familial roots. Representing the 5th generation of winemakers, the current family, guided by a remarkable spirit of unity, continues the legacy of their ancestors dating back to 1905. The transition to organic farming in 2023 marks a significant milestone for Domaine de Moulines, showcasing the winemaker’s commitment to producing high-quality wines while preserving nature.
Domaine de Moulines: Embracing a Unique Terroir
The estate benefits from an exceptional location, where proximity to the sea and diverse terroirs contribute to a range of wines that reflect the unique character of this special place. With soils ranging from clay-limestone to almost entirely sandy terrains, Domaine de Moulines cultivates a variety of grape varieties suited to these conditions. The choice of Sangiovese, Vermentino, and potentially Greek varieties in the future highlights Domaine de Moulines' ambition to stand out through bold and innovative choices.
Domaine de Moulines: A Rich Tapestry of Stories and Traditions
Life at Domaine de Moulines is a daily celebration of the family's passion for wine, shared by Charles, his father, brother, sister-in-law, and even his grandfather! This passion, passed down through generations, drives the estate forward. The vineyard's history is unique, with Domaine de Moulines originally purchased as a dowry for Charles SAUMADE (the ancestor of the current winemaker) and Domaine de Figueirasse won in a poker game!
Domaine de Moulines is rich with stories and traditions, such as the tradition of cooling off in the sea after long harvest days, embodying the estate’s spirit of conviviality and sharing. Despite the hard work, winemaker Charles describes it as more of a fun pursuit than laborious work—a sentiment that makes his wife, a schoolteacher, a bit envious!
Domaine de Moulines: Philosophy and Vision
Under the enlightened direction of Charles Saumade, the estate aims to perpetuate winemaking traditions through generations while innovating by integrating climate-resilient grape varieties. The goal is clear: to produce simple yet delightful wines that bring joy! Despite this modest approach, every wine at Domaine de Moulines reflects the uniqueness of its terroir and the winemaker’s personality.
As Charles Saumade puts it, "The more I learn about wine, the more I realize how much there is still to discover," which perfectly captures the Domaine de Moulines’ humble approach to the complexities of winemaking. Their wines are light, fruity, accessible, and affordable, inviting pleasure and reflecting the welcoming and passionate nature of those who create them. Each vintage at Domaine de Moulines is celebrated like a new birth, bringing much emotion and joy—a joy shared with those lucky enough to taste their wines !
