Family Tradition and Organic Viticulture in the Heart of the Minervois
Located in the commune of Roquecourbe-Minervois, Domaine Montaude embodies the perfect union between winemaking heritage, respect for the land, and a forward-looking vision. Nestled on gently sloping hillsides and terraces overlooking the Aude River, this family-run estate now covers over 50 hectares of vineyards, passionately cultivated by Patricia and Philippe Escoï, the proud heirs of six generations of winemakers.
Since the first plots were acquired in 1860, the Escoï family has continuously expanded the estate, gradually restoring much of the former land of the Château de Roquecourbe. Today, Domaine Montaude stands as a historic vineyard that reflects a deep commitment to passing on authentic know-how, while embracing the practices of sustainable viticulture.
Domaine Montaude: A Vineyard Rich in Diversity
The vineyard at Domaine Montaude features both traditional old vines—Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault—and newer grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. This diversity allows for the production of AOP Minervois wines and Pays d’Oc wines with a wide range of profiles, each a true reflection of its terroir.
The estate’s main plots are ideally located on gently sloping south-facing hillsides above the Aude River, providing perfect conditions for optimal grape ripening and full aromatic expression. The IGP white wines, particularly those made from Sauvignon Blanc, reveal notes of exotic fruit, while the red wines from Carignan and Grenache showcase a classic Languedoc style—round, structured, and fresh.
Organic Farming and Environmental Commitment
Keen to preserve biodiversity and natural balance, the Escoï family began the transition to organic farming in 2019. The estate earned official organic certification with the 2022 vintage, a recognition of years of work carried out with respect for the soil, climate, and vine cycles. The estate is also certified HVE (High Environmental Value), reinforcing its commitment to responsible and sustainable practices.
Every intervention in the vineyard is designed to minimize environmental impact. Soil is mechanically cultivated without the use of chemical herbicides, and phytosanitary treatments are kept to a minimum. This approach guarantees healthy wines with pure expression and ensures long-term sustainability for future generations.
Domaine Montaude, a Place to Discover
Domaine Montaude is also a place steeped in history. The old cellars, now restored, speak to the estate’s rich winemaking past. Traditional stone vats with meter-thick walls and vaulted ceilings now stand beside a welcoming tasting room where Patricia and Philippe receive guests. Visitors can sample the estate’s cuvées in a warm and friendly setting and experience the world of a passionate winemaking family eager to share their craft.
"Our strength is sharing our winemaking life with each of our customers," says Patricia. Because beyond the wine, the estate offers a way of life—vineyard landscapes, a deep-rooted culture of terroir, and family values passed down for over a century.
Thanks to its diverse grape varieties, organic farming, and deep family roots, Domaine Montaude has become a benchmark for AOP Minervois wines. It is a must-visit destination for lovers of exceptional, authentic, and environmentally respectful wines.
