What White Wine to Enjoy with Scallops?

The most traditional pairing for scallops is a dry white wine. To balance your dish, opt for a white wine with finesse. You can enjoy a dry, mineral white wine from Burgundy, such as Chablis or Mâcon. Alsace wines, with their intense floral and fruity aromas, are also excellent choices, with a Gewürztraminer being a great option. Alternatively, consider a sunnier white wine from the Rhône Valley, which offers a rich aromatic palette that enhances the delicate flavor of scallops. A Côte du Rhône blanc would be a suitable choice.

What Red Wine to Drink with Scallops?

Looking for a more original and surprising pairing with scallops? Try a red wine. With the right recipe and sauce, it’s entirely possible to enjoy scallops with a red wine. For dishes with fine and subtle flavors, a Burgundy red wine would be ideal. If the dish is richer and more intense, opt for a Crozes-Hermitage. You can also pair scallops with a Pinot Noir from Alsace.

Drinking Champagne with Scallops

Scallops also pair beautifully with Champagne, especially if served as an appetizer or in small servings at a cocktail party. Choose a brut Champagne with a crisp taste and fine minerality that will highlight the salinity of the scallops. A rosé Champagne can also complement your scallops nicely.

Best Wine Pairings with Scallops

Scallops can be prepared in various ways. Depending on your recipe, you can select a wine that will perfectly enhance your dish. For scallops in a creamy and spicy sauce, opt for a sunny white wine. Its intense flavor will match the richness of the dish well. A wine from the South-West or Rhône Valley, such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is a good choice.

For Breton-style scallops, choose a dry white wine from Burgundy or Alsace to balance the dish and enhance the seafood’s flavor. If your scallops are served with a mushroom sauce, prefer a more evolved white wine like Crozes-Hermitage, which can pair well with both the sweetness of the scallops and the subtlety of the mushrooms.
