Portraits of winemakers
CHÂTEAU LE NOBLE: A TERROIR IN THE HEART OF THE ENTRE-DEUX-MERS REGION
Château Le Noble: A Terroir at the Heart of Entre-Deux-Mers
The estate benefits from an ideal clay-limestone terroir for viticulture, with a full southern exposure that ensures optimal sunlight and natural soil drainage. Château Le Noble's vineyard consists of six different grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon for reds, as well as Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle for whites. Since 2013, the family-owned estate of about thirty hectares has been cultivated using organic farming methods, aiming to offer wines that respect both the environment and the unique terroir of Entre-Deux-Mers.
Château Le Noble combines tradition and modernity in its winemaking practices. Thomas Bonnefon, coming from a lineage of winemakers, and his wife Maria Mercedes, have revitalized the estate by incorporating gentle and extended winemaking techniques that preserve the natural aromas of the grapes while developing a fine and smooth structure in their wines. Their efforts focus on producing high-quality Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur wines, with particular attention given to the use of organic and sustainable methods to maintain the unique profile of their wines.
A History and Philosophy Rooted in Sustainability
Château Le Noble was established in 1820 and has a rich viticultural history. Since acquiring the estate in 2009, Thomas Bonnefon and his wife have dedicated themselves to renovating the infrastructure and continuously improving their winemaking practices. Their philosophy is based on a deep respect for the land and a commitment to sustainable development. By working with local suppliers and adopting responsible agricultural practices, they contribute to environmental preservation and the production of authentic wines.
The vineyard, which includes six different grape varieties, is cultivated with meticulous attention to detail, both in the vines and in the winemaking cellar. Surrounded by a top-notch team, the winemaking couple ensures that the wines fully express the unique terroir of Château Le Noble. Continuous investments in modernizing the estate reflect the Bonnefons' commitment to blending tradition and innovation to produce exceptional wines.
Château Le Noble: Ambitious Projects
Thomas Bonnefon, a fifth-generation winemaker, studied oenology and viticulture in Blanquefort before training in winemaking at Château Rauzan Ségla, a Grand Cru Classé in Margaux. Drawn to the world of wine from a young age, he left the corporate sector at 35 to realize his dream by acquiring Château Le Noble.
The current projects at Château Le Noble reflect the Bonnefons' vision and ambition for the estate's future. Since 2023, they have diversified their production by initiating the distillation of their wines to create gin and vodka, thus expanding their offerings while staying true to their commitment and vision. In addition to winemaking, the estate now welcomes visitors in a newly renovated tasting room and offers accommodations in gîtes, allowing wine enthusiasts to fully experience and enjoy the idyllic setting of the property.
Thomas and Maria, with their passion and dedication, continue to transform Château Le Noble into a reference vineyard in the Bordeaux region. Their motto, "Effort and Comfort," perfectly illustrates their approach to winemaking: hard work and a relentless quest for excellence, rewarded by the satisfaction of sharing high-quality wines with their clients. Each harvest and vintage is a new opportunity for them to create wines that capture the essence of their terroir and ancestral know-how.
