BASTIEN LANUSSE: A YOUNG TALENT AT CHÂTEAU DU POUEY
Château du Pouey: A New Chapter in a Family Legacy
Continuing a Generational Tradition
Three years ago, Bastien took on a significant challenge: to follow in his father's footsteps and take over the complete management of Château du Pouey. This 22-hectare vineyard, located in the heart of Southwest France, has been in the family for four generations and spans three appellations: Côtes de Gascogne, Madiran, and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh.
Balancing Tradition and Modernization
Upon taking charge of the estate, Bastien set two primary goals: to preserve the family tradition while modernizing the spirit and operations of Château du Pouey. In the vineyards, he applies the expertise his father passed down to him. "I strive to produce aromatic and enjoyable wines that provide pleasure without compromising the uniqueness of the terroir," says Bastien, who practices reasoned agriculture in his vineyards.
Innovating Sales and Enhancing Wine Tourism
When it comes to selling his bottles, however, Bastien prefers to innovate. While his father exclusively distributed their wines through a commercial group, Bastien opted to explore new channels. He turned to wine merchants, gourmet food stores, and the hospitality sector (cafés, hotels, restaurants)—industries undergoing significant transformation.
Additionally, Bastien is committed to developing oenotourism at Château du Pouey. He organizes tasting events such as "apéros-tapas" and "apéros-concerts" in a venue with a view of the vineyard, where he introduces visitors to his wines.
